LIFE LATELY:ON EDGE {06.25.2015}

Life these past few days has really been pushing us over the edge. We have had to deal with car issues all week and other things steadily testing our patience this week. But, all of that is about to change. Well for one, God is in control of everything so I do believe that He sees our struggles and is right beside us waiting for His chance to step in.

 The other thing is, I have a very fun surprise for E this weekend.With all the stress I knew we would need to do something to get away. A "stay-cation!" It's been a long time since we have been able to do a "stay-cation," mostly due to time restraints, I mean Texas is HUGE so to drive anywhere takes hours. I most likely will not be able to post until Sunday but I will be posting Friday morning.

coffee, whipped cream, foam, cocoaOh, in regards to Crossfit, I know I kind of left you hanging there. Well, we had to cancel the Wednesday appointment due to my Jeep Liberty deciding to completely lock me out. Apparently, from what we are being told without diagnostic being run, the computer system in the car is not cooperating with the key's chip. I guess my vehicle thought that I was trying to break in and shut down the whole car. We had to have it towed on Wednesday evening back to the dealership where we purchased it. Currently they are running eleven diagnostic checks and we should hear something by Friday...(fingers crossed)! I just hope that the news is good. We have a lifetime warranty that we got when we bought the vehicle but now they are playing games by saying that "the issue may or may not be covered under the warranty, we will just have to wait and see." Which is bologna! So, it's just a waiting a game at this point.

Anyways, we are rescheduled for Crossfit for Monday. Due to the high stress this week, we have only gone to the gym once...(insert shocking sound). If you know anything about E and I, it's that we love the gym! Missing one day is like the world ending, so you can imagine the fear and terror we feel missing multiple days, but right now we are just too stressed and are dealing with so much that we really do not have time. Most of our time is spent trying to stay calm, make phone calls, plan and arrange things, the list right now is endless.

CROSSFIT FOR LIFE {06.23.2015}

Back in late 2013 I had heard, from a previous co-worker, about Crossfit. She explained that it was high intensity work with great benefits. I have always wanted to try Crossfit but have always been hesitant since I usually like to challenge myself, but sometimes, even with the most challenging workouts, I still don't feel like I've worked hard enough. I'm sure some people would disagree and say "a workout is a workout," but I don't believe that anymore. I used to think that, back before I lost my 35 pounds, before I realized what good losing weight has done for me body both internally and externally, more importantly for my attitude. I am much happier since losing the weight. I still go to the gym daily and push myself to be better than last week but I just feel like I need a little more...push!

Being a cheerleader majority of my life, I always had a coach or two yelling at me to run, tumble, workout, get fit. After High School and Cheer, I didn't have that. My life completely changed. Going from a very fit and active sport to nothing, was difficult. Over the years, since 2013, I have thought many times about Crossfit but again, just psyched myself out and decided not to go. Finally, after researching and learning more, I realized that it sounds just like what I need.

So what did I do? Well, I set up for E and I to attend our very first Crossfit workout...tomorrow! E isn't too thrilled but I am. I mean, I'm nervous, that's for sure! But I think having a group of people working towards the same goal is a good thing for us. We need to be challenged just a little more. We need to be encouraged. We need to make sure that, when we workout, that we are using that time wisely.

I am so excited that I decided to start figuring out what I'm going to wear. Ridiculous right? (see side photos for outfit options) But training for a healthy mind and body is kind of like going on a date. You get an hour to work hard and make it count. Then at the end of the night, if you worked hard enough, you might feel like you've succeeded and got the best work out for your money and time.

I am still waist training during the day, so far, I have seen some results. I will do an update on this soon. We are also following along with the 21 Day Fix eating plan.

Have you tried Crossfit? Are you a current Crossfitter? Let me know what you love about Crossfit. Interested learning more about Crossfit? Check it out here, for the Houston, TX location!

I will post a follow-up from the Crossfit workout on Thursday.

FATHER'S DAY {06.21.2015}

legs, feet, hands, shorts, father, child, kid, parent, water, black and white
(source)
Father's Day is always a hard time for some. For me, it is a simple reminder that mine is gone. I tend to fight a lot of emotional battles with myself on Father's Day (and Mother's Day, if we're being honest, but this is about them). I fight a constant battle between the smiles to remind my father-in-law and step-father how important they are and how thankful I truly am to have them both in my life verses the tears when I think about living the rest of my life without hugs from my own father. I guess life is like that sometimes. Sometimes it's easy to find the happiness and other days it's hard to be reminded of the things we are missing.

Let me back track to September 9, 2008, my sixteenth birthday, also known as, the day my father passed away. It still leaves a wound that I'm not entirely sure will ever be repaired. Although there are men in my life that help to bandage the wound, it doesn't relieve, reduce, or remove the pain. I remember the day of and after he died more vividly than I remember the two years that followed. Hard to believe, huh? I can sit here and relive the story of his death but that's not what this post is about. It's about the father's.
To my crazy/loving Father:
You were so smart, kind, gentle, my true friend, and even in your darkest hours just before leaving this earth, you were loving. I remember you kissing me goodbye the night before you took your life, telling me Happy Birthday and that you loved me. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but that would be the last time I'd hear those words. And man, I miss those words. Dad, you were brave. I know you struggled with alcoholism and drug-abuse for most of your life, but you kept me safe, you provided for me. I don't care who you were or what you did as an individual out in the world because you were such an incredible father, you really were. I miss buying you ties, wallets, and just fun/dumb stuff that would make you laugh. So today, I want to wish all the father's, including mine, in Heaven, a very Happy Father's Day. If you're like me and are struggling today with the loss of your own father, just remember he is always watching you and loves you.

To my kind-hearted/inspiring Father-In-Law:
I seriously do not know where I would be without you. You are half of the reason Erik is here and without him...well let's just focus on the positive here. You have always been a rock to lean on. You walked me down the aisle to the boy that was your son, and the man that became my husband. You are always so kind, so loving, so warming to be around. Although you have had your moments where I've thought "oh man, he's tough," you've always shown me love. I have felt, since day one, that you were more of a father figure to me and you've proven that year after year. Erik, I'm sure, has some fun and inspiring stories to share and lord knows you are the topic of so many conversations when we talk about kids. Erik aspires to be like you as a father, and I would be so proud if he could be half of the father you are because you are a diamond in the rough. How lucky am I that I get to be your daughter-in-law? And you better believe that I count that blessing every day! Also, thank you for letting me take over cooking, occasionally, on the weekends. I love our "bonding" time when it's just me and you in the kitchen while everyone else is busy. Oh, and thank you for always being able to reach the things that my short little arms just can't seem to grab. You are such an incredible man and I appreciate you more and more everyday. I love you so much! Happy Father's Day!!!
To my Step-Father with his new Mrs.:
First off, thank you for loving my mom. I know you cared for her in the best way you could and lord knows that woman was a mess. More importantly, thank you for loving me. Thank you for always being there when I need you, in the good and bad, you were there. I know we had a rough start but our relationship has grown so much and I am so blessed to have you in my life. I am also thankful that you found Robin. She is amazing and she probably could have taken you and said "her mom is gone, stop talking to her," but instead she welcomed me. You did a good job, she's really incredible! I also appreciate you texting me and keeping me updated when you were in Afghanistan. I was constantly worried about you and would constantly pray for you. You have been such a huge blessing in my life. I am so thankful for all the times you included me in things and I just can't image my life without you in it. You just fit so well! You really have become a father figure in my life and I trust your judgment and word. Happy Father's Day Brandon!!!
To Erik:
I know this probably comes as a shock since some will probably say "he isn't really a father," but we both know that isn't true. You are the reason I was blessed with two angel babies. You have always been such an amazing part of my life. You've supported me through the good and bad, the sickness and health, and you've been so patient with me. I know, just by watching you with other kids, that you will be an amazing father when God blesses us with our earth baby. You are such an inspiration and although you aren't quite up to par with your dad hehe, you still amaze me with your strength and determination. I wish more men in the world were like you because then others would be able to see what it's like to marry a man who is just absolutely astounding! You take my breath away by how loving and caring and honest you are. I am so thankful that you stuck beside me and pushed through the infertility struggles right there with me, you even did it with a smile and open arms. Happy Father's Day to you my sweet husband and father of our two precious angel babies!

To the rest of the father's in this big 'ol world: Thank you for being there for your children. The greatest quote that I've read is: "any man can make a baby, but it takes a real man to raise it." You are real man and the women of the world thank you for being the father of their children and raising them.
Happy Father's Day!

WAIST TRAINING TIPS {06.17.2015}

My waist trainer arrived yesterday evening and as soon as I arrived home, I opened the box and put it on. I was surprised with how small it was, even though it was a size large. I decided to wear it during yoga since I assumed it would help stretch it out and maybe make it easier for me to wear. Well, here are a few things I learned just from the first day of wearing the waist trainer.

Wear some type of fabric underneath your cincher/waist trainer. I wear a latex full stomach band. I can't imagine how painful it would be if someone were to wear the cincher/waist trainer on their bare skin.
  1. It will be tight and it should be!  Here's the best way to describe how you should be able to wear the waist trainer:
    • "When you first receive your cincher you may need someone to help fastening the hooks. We recommend having someone pull on the sides to make it easier to hook or laying face up on the bed or floor and start hooking from top to bottom. If you are able to fasten the hooks then it's your size. The cincher is designed to be extremely tight, the compression tightens your core, helping you lose inches from your abdomen and waistline." (source)
  2. It really is not painful, it's quite comfortable. I was surprised after putting it on because I thought I would be in pain or it would be hard to breathe, but...none of the above. I was able to move, breathe, and even did all my yoga poses perfectly with no restrictions.
  3. Your posture will be much better. I realized that while wearing the cincher, I sat up more and had less back pain during the day.
  4. Drink lots of water! The point is to help you loose weight by sweating and through compression. Well, when you sweat, you need to replenish with water. So drink your water ladies!!!
Is the cincher/waist trainer for everyone? No! I don't think many people would be able to wear this comfortably all day but I do think it's possible if you go into this knowing that its supposed to be tight and compressed.

I will be posting photos at the end of the first week to show the difference. I've seen some amazing one-week results and then some not. If you'd like to join me and have not purchased your cincher yet, you can purchase the same one that I have by visiting this link.

Have a Very Happy Friday!!!

WAIST TRAINING {06.17.2015}

I'm sure you've heard about waist training before from the likes of celebrities such as Kim Zociak, Kim Kardashian, Snooki, Jessica Alba, Khloe Kardashian, Lily James (Cinderella), JWoww, the list is endless.

(source)
Maybe you've thought about trying it out but just aren't sure. Well, I know how you feel. I finally gave in and decided to order my first waist trainer. I wanted to take part in the waist train society. Let me first start by giving you some benefits of waist training.

  1. High compression helps to firm and tone your stomach, love handles, and lower belly fat
  2. Increases blood circulation and stimulates perspiration on your abdominal area
  3. Offers back support and aids back pain
  4. Promotes healthy lifestyle and a healthy mind

(source)
Of course, you have to keep in mind that this is just a tool to assist you with toning and tightening. If you wear this all day and then continue to eat fast food, odds are, you won't see any difference. My plan is to continue working out seven days a week and eating with my healthy portion control system.

If you are interested in trying it but want to see results from someone else before trying it yourself, then you're in luck! I will be starting my waist training tomorrow and will give you a full review at the end of the seven days.

If you already have a waist trainer but need a partner, or maybe you just received it but aren't sure what to do, you can join me. Here is my waist training "plan."

First, I will only be wearing the waist trainer during the day. Majority of the information sites I've read on waist training suggest wearing the trainer for up to four hours when just starting out, then adjusting time to six to eight hours a day once comfortable and used to the fit of the waist trainer. In addition to wearing the trainer during the day, I will also be working out seven days a week but will not be wearing the waist trainer during cardio workouts, I will only wear the trainer during lower/upper body workout days. You can see my workout schedule and healthy eating portion control information here!

Stay Tuned as I will be posting some info-videos for those that are interested in learning more about waist training.

OVER THE WEEKEND {06.15.2015}

Quite a few things "went down" this weekend. Let's start with Saturday, E had to work, again, which let me alone to conquer the day on my own. I woke up at 8am, enjoyed my breakfast got dressed and sprinted out the door around 8:45am to head to my Cycling class. It was such a fun class too!! It definitely kept me sweating the whole time but totally worth it. I also decided that my EC (Erin Condren) planner need some weight-loss inspirational stuff so I made this adorable weight-loss tracker! I love it, and it was so easy to make. The only thing missing is the rhinestones to symbolize the pounds. I plan on making a trip to Hob-Lob this weekend for those.

After cycling class, I headed to the grocery store and spent some time gathering all the products that I would need for us to begin our 14 day fix. I was pretty pleased with the fact that I was able to get 6-meals a day, for seven days, for two people at only $108! That is amazing! (More on how I got that price later). I left the store feeling super proud and ready to take on the meal prepping. Although, it is so much easier with two people, I managed to make it through just fine. Saturday ended quite well, E got home and we enjoyed another shopping excursion to grab a few remaining things. We plopped on the sofa to watch The D.U.F.F. and enjoyed our last "unhealthy" meal which included individual containers of ice-cream. And no, I will not disclose how many ounces of ice-cream were in those containers, but I will say it was DELICIOUS and the best was to commemorate all the unhealthy days that will now be put behind us as we focus on losing weight and getting healthy.

Sunday started out a little rocky. I woke up to our bathroom, hallway, and laundry room flooded in blue sticky laundry detergent. First of all, I thought we were running out of laundry detergent but apparently there was enough to cover the whole floor. Secondly, cleaning up that mess was...well, a mess! We had to use at least 7 towels and then we had to use the spray hose from the kitchen and spray the floor to get it wet so that the stickiness would not stay. So frustrating and hilarious at the same time. Would have been nice to be Vlogging at that time. By the afternoon, I was hitting the gym with E. It's always nice being able to share that time with him even though we don't talk. Later afternoon rolled around and I went to get my hair done. It was so relaxing! We stopped by E's parents house to say hi and I helped cut some celery.

Sunday was actually day one of our 14 Day Fix and we did great! It was so filling and easy to stay on track. Tonight, we have to pay off our cruise and wait for Tropical Storm Bill (I guess that's going to be the name...possibly) to either hit or stay. Blackjack much? Ahh Vegas, it's on my mind y'all!

Well, that's a wrap! I'm pretty excited to post the update on the 14 Day Fix on Sunday!!! Let me know how you're doing and how you feel so far.

14 DAY FIX - JOIN US {06.12.2015}

E and I were recently introduced to the 21 Day Fix while watching TV at our gym. I originally thought, "what a scam..," you know the normal thought most people have when they see things being sold on TV. But I started hearing more and more about it through friends and started researching. I found out that many people have really great success on this program, so after talking with E, we decided that we would "try it out." So we decided that we would start with a 14 Day Fix first. After all, 2 weeks doesn't seem that bad. Sure, you're probably thinking "what's one more week?," and your question is valid but we wanted to just dip our feet in the water before completely cannon-balling into something that we may hate. Want to join us? We will be starting this "fix" on Sunday, June 14!

So, for those that are interested, I wanted to divulge all the details to you! Let's get started. I'll take you step-by-step so you can easily follow along and understand the whole program to the best of your ability.

Before I begin, let me just explain the whole 21 Day Fix program. Basically, it is a program designed to help you lose up to 15 pounds in 21 days through simple fitness and simple eating - through its portion control eating system and seven day, 30-minute workouts each week. Pretty simple right? *please note that not everyone will lose 15 pounds, this is just an estimate. you may be able to lose more or you may not lose but 1 pound*

Now that we have the definition down, let's talk about how much you should be eating. First step, click here. That link will take you to a website where you can calculate the amount of calories you should be taking for a healthy weight loss. Once you are done calculating, take a look at this chart here and find your "Target Calorie."

Next, take a look at the container colors. From your column with the container #, write these down. For example, if your "Target Calorie" is 1550 then you would need (4) green, (3) purple, (4) red, (3) yellow, (1) blue, (1) orange, and (5) teaspoons. Below, you will find the measurements for each of this containers.
Now you need to plan! Figure out what you would like to eat during the day by using this menu.
Got your list of fav items? Alright, time to plan it out!!! Here is a sample below. The best way to do this would be to use an Excel sheet but you can always use pen and paper.
Let's start with the "meals" column. Yes, you will eat Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner but you will also need to eat three snacks throughout the day with the last snack being "dessert." Next column is the "menu," this is where you would type/write what you want to eat. The easiest way to do this is to use your menu and figure out what you would like to eat for each meal. It may help if as you plan the "menu," you also plan your "container count." You'll notice in the example that the person wrote "eggs (2)" for breakfast and marked (1) "x" in the red contain count, this is an exception as (2) eggs (egg-white portion only) are equivalent to 3/4 cup. Look further down at the lunch. Notice again that the person writes the menu for that meal and then plans it accordingly by marking the containers used with an "x." Make sure that you are paying attention to how many containers you should be getting. Revert to the first photo to find out how many containers you would get per your "target calorie." Again, it's really important that you are not forgetting to mark your "x's" so you are aware of what you are using throughout the day to know that you are not going over.

Final step, the workout plan! If you order the 21 Day Fix program, it comes with a DVD but I am not a DVD girl, and E isn't either, so I came up with a workout plan that will mirror the DVD's plan but allows me to enjoy the gym. Here is the plan that I will be following:

Mondays - Cardio
Tuesdays - Upper Body Strength
Wednesdays - Zumba (cardio)
Thursdays - Yoga
Fridays - Lower Body Strength
Saturdays - Cycling (another cardio)
Sundays - Full Body Strength (Upper & Lower)

Keep in mind that the point of the Cardio workouts is to raise your heart rate, make you sweat! The point of the Upper/Lower Body Strength days is to tone and tighten. You should only be working out for 30-minutes a day, so make it count! Please remember to push yourself but also be mindful of your bodies signals that you need to rest.

Most important, DRINK WATER! Water is soooo very important regardless of trying to lose weight or not, but it is especially important if you are working out because of how quickly you can dehydrate yourself. Try to drink at least (1) gallon of water a day and see if you can increase it to (2) gallons a day. Most body-builders and die-hard fitness people drink up to (3) or (4) gallons! I don't know if I could do that since that would require at least 50-100 bathroom breaks.
Lastly, take progress pictures daily! I know you probably hate the way you look in clothes and just the thought of taking daily photos in nothing but your underwear is terrifying, but, you need to see your progress. Too many times people get discouraged because they don't think they see results, until they start taking daily photos and see the results slowly starting to show. You don't need to show them to anyone, you don't even have to keep them forever but it's good to see yourself and see how much progress you're making. E and I will be taking the progress photos daily and will make a collage at the end of the 14 days. I will, of course, post mine (not E's), in the hopes that it will encourage those of you reading to take part and join us!!!

We will be trying to do a live event on the YouTube channel for those interested in finding out how to meal prep, where to begin and what to expect. Live Event will be posted at our channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MeganErikRichards

Good luck and let's get fit together! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
*I am not affiliated with 21 Day Fitness or BeachBody in anyway. Just another person looking to improve my lifestyle, get fit, and get healthy!*

BODIFICATION {06.11.2015}

Last night was so fun, I can't even begin to explain, but here I go.
Happy "Day Before Friday" Day!

So recently, I have been wanting to change up my workout routine. Although I absolutely love the stair master, I realized that I needed to break ties and find something different to challenge my body daily. So I found Zumba and Yoga!!!

I've heard from so many people that Zumba is fun and energetic, almost like you don't even know it's a workout. Well, I have to agree. The trainer last night really made it feel like I was just enjoying some fun dancing out on the beach. We did hip-hop, salsa, and meringue. The body movements were fairly easy, for a first time Zumba-er, and for the most part, every one, first timer or veteran, could keep up with our bubbly instructor. The music was great! I was pleasantly surprised. I guess I always assumed that it would be boring background music but we danced to real songs that you could sing along to, like me, while dancing to really get involved, get excited, and get moving. I also enjoyed the fact that the class was small enough to move around and breathe, but large enough to not feel singled out like the whole room is just staring at your back. Most of the Zumba-er's were wearing yoga-like pants and workout shirts, I opted for shorts because I wanted to be as cool as possible. I didn't take pictures in the class but this picture pretty much represent how fun it really is!

I will say, I think too many people are worried about "looking silly," but bottom line is, you are there to workout, get fit, and have fun. To be honest, everyone probably looks silly or feels silly but no one cares because everyone is to busy having fun. If you haven't already, I challenge you to take on just one Zumba class and let me know how you liked it. Besides, like Grandma always said, "how do you know you don't like it, if you haven't tried it?"

Tonight, I get to enjoy one hour of relaxing Yoga. I have been waiting for this all week. I guess really Yoga and Zumba were tied, and maybe Cycling too. Last night, after Zumba, I went to Target to pickup my yoga mat. It's cute, not pink, but cute lavender. It will work.

I wanted to share with you, especially those who are considering yoga, some of my favorite yoga pieces and what to pack in your yoga bag.

Yoga Pants, Yoga Shirt(s), Water Bottle, Towel (not pictured), Yoga Mat, Headband, Sports Bra

Those are just a few of my favorites! Although it is not pictured, it is very important that you bring a towel. I am also pretty excited about mastering some yoga poses. Here are some of the beginners poses that I want to master. This week, so far, has been quite fun. Changing up the workout schedule and enjoying new classes. Although we haven't officially started our new portion control program or workout plan, we wanted to take this week to get prepared. It's always good to get your body ready for something big. Stay tuned for tomorrow morning's post. I will talking about our upcoming portion control program and workout plan. If you want to join us, I will detail out all the things you will need to take part in this. I am really excited to see where we will be over the course of the next few months as we try to shed off the remaining 20 pounds we are eager to lose.

I look forward to posting details about the yoga class.

Have a great and beautifully blessed day
